Case Studies

Sourcing and Supply Chain Solutions

Tooling End of Life and Replacement

This case study examined a low volume, high mix ISO 13485 medical device. The work began with evaluating low-cost region (LCR) suppliers and progressed through RFQ, supplier selection, and sourcing the required injection molding tools. The result: a 60% part cost reduction, over $1 million in yearly savings, and a tooling ROI realized in less than a year.

Compliance and Schedule

This case involved a low volume textile carry case for a portable medical device. To meet U.S. government regulations, materials needed to be sourced domestically. The supply base was surveyed, suppliers were assessed and quoted, and sourcing was completed accordingly. As a result, the selected supplier met the aggressive schedule while delivering competitive part costs.

Capacity Expansion and Tariff Mitigation

This case study examined a high volume consumable lifestyle device in an FDA regulated market. The objective was to onshore production to increase capacity and offset a 25% tariff on China sourced plastic components. U.S. suppliers were evaluated through a structured assessment and RFQ process, and the necessary injection molding tools were sourced to enable the transition. The onshoring effort delivered part pricing below the China incumbent, generated more than 25% total cost savings, and an ROI in less than 18 months.

Schedule Case Study

This case study dealt with a low volume, painted, cast urethane part for a medical
device. The incumbent supplier ceased operations, necessitating a rapid replacement to
prevent customer impact and lost sales. US-based candidate suppliers were…

Let’s Talk

Peak exists because sourcing excellence shouldn’t be reserved for companies with massive procurement organizations.

Tooling End of Life and Replacement

This case study focuses on a low volume, high mix medical device application that adheres to ISO 13485 standards. The project began with the identification and assessment of candidate suppliers located in a low cost region (LCR). Following this, a Request for Quotation (RFQ) process was conducted, leading to the selection of suppliers and the sourcing of a suite of plastic injection molding tools.

The outcome of these actions was a significant reduction in part costs, achieving savings of 60%. The annual cost savings exceeded $1 million, and the investment in new tooling yielded a return on investment (ROI) in less than 12 months.

Compliance and Schedule

This study involved a low volume textile carry case designed for a portable medical device. To comply with the Berry Amendment and meet a highly compressed timeline, it was necessary to source materials from within the United States. The supply base in the US was surveyed, suppliers were assessed and quoted, and sourcing was completed accordingly. The selected supplier was able to meet the strict timing requirements while providing a competitive part cost.

Capacity Expansion and Tariff Mitigation

A high-volume consumable lifestyle device within a FDA regulated industry was the focus of this case study. The project aimed to onshore manufacturing in the US to increase capacity and offset a 25% tariff imposed on plastic goods sourced from China. Candidate suppliers in the US were identified, assessed, and quoted, and the necessary suite of plastic injection molding tools was sourced to meet expanding capacity needs.
As a result, part pricing was achieved at a rate lower than that of the China-based incumbent. The total cost savings amounted to more than 25%, factoring in both tariff mitigation and part savings. The tooling investment provided an ROI in less than 18 months.

This case study dealt with a low volume, painted, cast urethane part for a medical device. The incumbent supplier ceased operations, necessitating a rapid replacement to prevent customer impact and lost sales. US-based candidate suppliers were identified, assessed, and quoted.
